Kari Maripuu and Markko Legonkov founded the software development company Brightspark in 2011. The name of the company suggests that the ambition of the owners is to work with only the brightest professionals in their field.

Brightspark has been developing the product management information system of Coop Eesti Keskühistu since 2015. During the collaboration, it became clear that the system created for Coop helps make in-house product management more efficient, but does not solve the problem for the entire market. Brightspark found that the real value in product information management for market participants is created when a platform is developed that can be used jointly by both parties. The Lexi.Market concept was first presented in February 2018 at a competition held by the Union of Merchants, at that time, as a visual static prototype.
